Central Local Schools Quality Profile

District Vision

To Build on our tradition of Excellence together, through Exceptional Academic Opportunities, Staff, and Facilities.

Mission Statement

Central Local Schools, in partnership with the community, will provide an appropriate environment for each student to realize his/her fullest potential as a life-long learner in a global society.

At Central Local Schools we do things The Fairview Way. In short, every employee strives everyday to give our students the very best possible educational opportunities. We are, as one of our high school teachers, Mrs. Short, stated so well, …

"located in a small, rural community. Many generations of families have walked our halls. Grandparents that attended Fairview attend school events watching their grandchildren participate in various activities. Our district does not have industry to support us, but instead a loving, farming community that believes in conservative values in education and home. Our high school has a dedicated staff who work hard teaching our students what they will need in life to be successful. Though the years pass by, some things haven’t changed because we still believe in hardwork, community, and a simpler way of life."

At Fairview High School, we offer a very rigorous core curriculum. In addition, we are actively involved with Defiance County Workforce Development. Our students have the opportunity for internships with companies in neighboring communities. We also offer many elective courses on campus for our high school students in agricultural education, business, music, art, foreign language and a ground-breaking course in engineering, provided in cooperation with The University of Texas, Austin, Engineer Your World.

At Fairview Middle School, we are proud to say we are a National Blue Ribbon School. We were honored in the area of Gap Closing. Our teachers are offering hands on STEM projects in our science and math classrooms. As part of our move to one-to-one technology for our middle school students we have added a “makerspace” in our middle school so that we will be able to encourage even more hands on creative projects for our students.

At Fairview Elementary School, we not only offer all day every day kindergarten, but we also have a young five’s program for students who may need a little extra time and extra care before they are ready to take on a full day program. We offer flexible seating and manipulatives to help meet each student’s needs as far as aptitude and learning styles. We are excited to announce the addition of a Robotics Club. We also take the RTI process very seriously. For first and second grades, we use a variety of charts and graphs in our instruction. The purpose of this is not just to have a place to provide data but also to be able to pinpoint the exact areas that we need to focus on. This helps ensure that the student receives the best interventions possible. The first chart is a progress monitoring sheet. This includes assessment scores such as DIBELS and the Star Reading Assessment. Progress monitoring scores are also included. A different chart is used to focus on the types of errors made in decodable words. This allows us to determine what the kind of errors are being made, not just how many. A third chart used is a bar graph used to show words read per minute. These scores include both DIBELS scores and weekly progress monitoring scores. This is used to give the student a visual representation of their progress and their goals.

We are also very proud of our art program and as part of our art program our students are able to successfully compete in the following exhibitions/contests:

  • Ohio Art Education Association Youth Art Month Exhibition
  • Ohio Art Education Association Young People's Art Exhibition
  • Northwest Ohio Art Education Association Youth Art Month Exhibition
  • Defiance Crescent News Kids' Design An Ad Contest
